Former Minister of Labour and Public Relations Mervyn Silva on Monday (28) appeared before the Colombo High Court in connection with a high-profile corruption case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

The case, which was filed by CIABOC’s Director General on 28 May 2025, centres on allegations that Silva acquired luxury vehicles, real estate, and other assets valued at over Rs. 150 million—well beyond what he could have lawfully earned during his ministerial tenure from 31 March 2010 to 31 March 2012.

The prosecution alleges that funds from 48 separate bank accounts held across multiple state and private financial institutions were used to purchase these assets, repay bank loans, and maintain personal ownership of the said properties.

Presiding over the matter, High Court Judge Sahan Mapa Bandara ordered that the case be postponed to 24 September.

Senior President’s Counsel Anil Silva, joined by Attorney-at-Law Nishshanka Peiris and a legal team, appeared for the defence.

Silva, known for his controversial political career and combative public persona, has denied any wrongdoing.
