The National Freedom Front (NFF) has condemned the “forcible takeover” of the Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) office in Yakkala by members of the ruling National People’s Power (NPP) coalition.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the NFF alleged that a deputy minister, two members of parliament, and a group of around 40 individuals linked to the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP)—the dominant force in the NPP—had participated in the storming of the premises.

The incident has sparked alarm among smaller opposition parties, with the FSP accusing the JVP of authoritarian behavior and calling for a united front to resist an emerging “dictatorial path.”

The NFF further claimed that law enforcement authorities failed to intervene as the takeover unfolded, raising concerns about political impunity and the shrinking space for dissent in the country’s increasingly polarized political landscape.
