NPP MP’s father involved in financial fraud, says Waruna Rajapaksha

The father of an unnamed ruling National People’s Power (NPP) MP has been accused of having committed a serious financial and land fraud, according to a revelation by former provincial councillor and SJB Gampaha organiser Waruna Rajapaksha.

He said he has lodged a complaint with Balangoda police and claimed to have copies of a B report and fake deeds prepared by the accused.

Identified as Sarath Hemandra, born in 1950 and a former CEB engineer, he has compiled data about viable locations for hydropower projects.

Once retired, he has started a mini hydropower plant in Ratnapura alonbg with several partners.

Also, he has obtained loans with the support of one Chandraratne.

Subsequently, he has gone missing, and creditors traced him to a two-storey house in Kottawa which he had owned, but sold since, but where he continued to stay.

He promised to pay back the money in due course.

Another fraud said to have committed by him is the house in question, despite being sold, has been transferred to another person as a bond.

The MP in question is said to be a legal expert, who has not mentioned much in the asset declaration.

Rajapaksha also added that the MP is required to declare if they have profited from the father’s fraudulent acts.
