Opposition’s voice being silenced in parliament – Sajith

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday charged that the government is deliberately curtailing the time allocated to the opposition in parliament to raise issues of national importance.

Speaking during his “From Village to Village, Door to Door” programme in Medawachchiya, Premadasa accused the government of undermining parliamentary democracy by switching off microphones when Opposition MPs attempt to speak.

Premadasa warned that such tactics not only stifle debate but also erode public trust in the democratic process.

He called on the government to uphold the principles of accountability and transparency by allowing the opposition to fulfil its role in parliament.
