The Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs has reported that a total of 122,913 individuals were arrested for drug-related offenses across Sri Lanka between January 1 and July 29, 2025.
The ministry revealed staggering quantities of drugs seized during the period, including 928,787 kilograms of heroin, 1,396,709 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (ICE), 11.1 million kilograms of cannabis, 27,836 kilograms of cocaine, and 381,428 kilograms of hashish.
Meanwhile, a special island-wide anti-narcotics operation was conducted on July 29 by the Sri Lanka Police, Police Special Task Force (STF), and the Tri-Forces.
The operation involved 6,695 personnel, including officers from all participating agencies.
Authorities inspected 10,128 vehicles and 7,734 motorcycles during the sweep.
The operation led to the arrest of 948 individuals for various drug-related offenses, while an additional 13 suspects identified as directly involved in narcotics trafficking were also taken into custody.
Police also recovered three illegal firearms during the raids.
