Minister Bimal Ratnayake is wrong to have concluded that a pilot error led to the recent crash of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) training aircraft amid an ongoing inquiry, said a senior SLAF official.

The SLAF is seriously concerned by the Minister’s claim, made even before a seven-member committee of inquiry appointed by the Air Force Commander issues its report, said the official.

The present regime’s such political statements remind the wrongs of its predecessors, added the official.

The Chinese-made K-8 from the SLAF’s base camp in Katunayake crashed at Padeniya in Kurunegala during a training session.

The two pilots escaped with injuries after managing to land with their parachutes.
