Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to participate in the foundation stone laying ceremony for the highly anticipated Sampur power plant project during his two-day visit to Sri Lanka in April.

This visit is seen as a significant step towards strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations, with a particular focus on enhancing collaboration in the energy sector.

Modi’s visit comes at the invitation of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who extended the gesture during his recent trip to India.

As part of the ongoing diplomatic discussions, an agreement has been reached between the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and India’s National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to implement the Sampur power plant project.

In addition to the construction of the plant, the agreement includes plans to expand the plant’s capacity to address Sri Lanka’s growing energy demands.
