Opposition lawmaker Chamara Sampath Dissanayake says that the daughter of a Deputy Minister representing the Badulla District was granted a student leadership position at a local school following pressure on the school principal.

Speaking during a parliamentary debate, MP Dissanayake claimed that the Deputy Minister had even approached the Human Rights Commission over an initial refusal to appoint the student as a prefect.

He said that the school principal, facing undue pressure, ultimately gave in and awarded the position to the Deputy Minister’s daughter.
