The Ceylon Teachers’ Union (CTU) has called on the government to introduce an urgent relief loan program for teachers and principals affected by the recent natural disaster.

General Secretary of CTU, Joseph Stalin, said many educators have been severely impacted and are currently struggling with existing loans and other financial obligations.

He urged authorities to provide financial support, including loan concessions or cancellations, to help affected teachers recover.

Stalin also highlighted the government’s existing ‘Suraksha’ insurance scheme, which is intended for students, but noted that details on the benefits and applicability remain unclear.
