At the invitation of the Royal Thai Embassy in Colombo, The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, together with the Chamber’s Sri Lanka Greater Mekong Business Council, hosted a panel discussion on “Business Opportunities between Thailand and Sri Lanka: Food, Agriculture, and Health for Sustainable Prosperity and Wellbeing.”

The event, held on 3rd March at the Kingsbury Colombo, was followed by a Business Networking Session with a visiting business delegation from Thailand.

The Thai delegation, organised by the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Board of Trade of Thailand, comprised 17 officials and business representatives. This visit served as a follow-up to the business promotion mission to Thailand in February 2025, aimed at deepening trade and investment ties, particularly in sectors crucial to sustainable development.

The panel discussion brought together industry leaders and experts from both countries to explore opportunities in the food, agriculture, and health sectors. The dialogue focused on fostering sustainable prosperity and wellbeing for both nations.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber, Mr. Duminda Hulangamuwa, welcomed the delegation’s emphasis on these key sectors, aligning with the Sri Lankan government’s priorities on food security, agriculture, and tourism-driven services.

Ambassador of Thailand to Sri Lanka, His Excellency Paitoon Mahapannaporn, noted that while Sri Lanka’s traditional exports to Thailand were dominated by precious stones, recent trends show growth in raw materials, finished and processed products, plastic products, textiles, chemicals, tea, and spices. He highlighted the significant potential for further trade expansion.

Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand, Mr. Sanan Angubolkul, emphasized the need for Sri Lanka and Thailand to collaborate on adding value to products and services, ensuring greater access to global markets.

The delegation, led by Mr. Sanan Angubolkul, included prominent Thai entrepreneurs from diverse industries. These discussions are expected to strengthen economic ties and drive mutual prosperity.

In addition to the discussions, the delegation will conduct field visits to gain firsthand insights into Sri Lanka’s food, agriculture, and health sectors and identify potential areas for collaboration.
