Sri Lanka’s opposition leader Sajith Premadasa called on India and China to work together to strengthen the influence of the Global South, stating that closer cooperation between the two countries could help amplify the voices of those marginalized in the global order
Speaking at the launch of China’s 15th New Blueprint, New Horizon initiative in Colombo, Premadasa said progress in the Global South depends in part on improved relations between China and India, the world’s two most populous nations.
“It is appealing to all of us to see the Global South progressing, making advancements. It is our sincere belief that cooperation and good relations between China and India would further strengthen the voice of the voiceless in the Global South,” he said.
Premadasa said the current international political order needs to be reformed to ensure greater representation and participation by developing countries in shaping global political and economic agendas.
“It is essential that the international political order is changed and transformed to ensure the Global South has a positive presence in the designing of the international political agenda,” he added.
