Sri Lanka ends 2024 as South Asia’s best football team

After six years of hard work and improvement, Sri Lanka’s men’s football team has finished 2024 as the best South Asian team, earning top honours in the region.

Out of the seven South Asian countries competing in football, Sri Lanka rose to the top with 12 points from 10 matches played.

The team achieved three victories, three draws, and only four losses throughout the year, showcasing their steady progress and strong performances.Bangladesh secured second place with 7 points from 10 matches, recording two wins and one draw, while India, despite participating in the highest number of matches (11), finished in third place with just 5 points.

India’s campaign was marked by a challenging year, with no wins recorded.

Nepal and Bhutan completed the top five, with Nepal earning 4 points from 8 matches, and Bhutan finishing with 3 points after 2 games.

Meanwhile, Pakistan and Bhutan’s football teams faced difficult seasons, both failing to earn any points after losing all their matches, with each side playing four games.
