Nearly three weeks after a deadly landslide in Napatawala village was triggered by Cyclone Ditwah, survivors say they have received no government assistance and that no officials have visited the affected area.

The disaster, which struck on 27 November, buried five homes and killed a woman, leaving families without shelter or basic necessities.

Residents say they have also been denied information or any formal assessment of their losses.

“Our house, where I lived with my four daughters, was completely buried,” said W. M. Disanayake, a displaced resident. “It happened more than two weeks ago, but no one from the government has come to see our suffering.”

Disanayake, now renting a single room from a neighbour, added that his family has received neither dry rations nor cooked food since the landslide.

Affected families have expressed frustration over the government’s lack of response, warning that delays in aid and relief could further worsen living conditions.
