The Sri Lanka men’s volleyball team captured the bronze medal at the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) Nations Cup 2025, held at the Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium in Dhaka on Tuesday night.

Under the leadership of captain Ayesh Perera and the tactical guidance of Head Coach Kalika Wasanthapriya, a veteran of Sri Lankan volleyball, the team delivered an emphatic 3-0 victory over Bangladesh in the third-place playoff.

The straight-set triumph — 25-20, 25-23, 25-20 — marked a significant improvement from last year’s fourth-place finish, highlighting the squad’s steady growth and renewed confidence on the regional stage.

Mohomed Thahir stood out as the Man of the Match, showcasing exceptional all-round skill, while captain Ayesh Perera earned the Best Blocker of the Tournament award for his commanding defensive presence at the net.

The week-long CAVA Nations Cup featured teams from Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Maldives.

Turkmenistan emerged champions after defeating Afghanistan in the final to take gold, with Afghanistan securing silver. Sri Lanka’s podium finish placed them ahead of Bangladesh (fourth), Nepal (fifth), and Maldives (sixth).
