President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that the government was able to negotiate and postpone several previously agreed polices on taxation, following successful negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Speaking at the 26th AGM of the Chamber of Young Lankan Entrepreneurs (COYLE) held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo, the President revealed that the implementation of the much-discussed property tax, which was scheduled to take effect this year, has been postponed until next year.
President Dissanayake highlighted the government’s efforts to ease the financial burden on the public and businesses.
He said that the government was also able to negotiate a reduction in the taxes imposed on digital service exports. Initially set at thirty percent, the tax rate has now been halved to fifteen percent following discussions with the IMF, he added.
