The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) is set to initiate legal proceedings against Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody over allegations of financial misconduct dating back to his tenure at the Fertiliser Corporation in 2015.

According to sources familiar with the investigation, Minister Jayakody, along with two others, is accused of misappropriating Rs. 8 million in connection with a contract awarded under his chairmanship of the corporation’s tender board.

The case is expected to be filed in the High Court in the coming weeks.

If pursued, Jayakody would become the first sitting minister in the current administration to face corruption charges.
