New amendments will be introduced to the law to increase the monthly minimum wage of private sector employees to Rs. 27,000 rupees, the Ministry of Labour said.
Currently, the monthly minimum wage for private sector employees stands at Rs. 21,000.
Secretary to the Ministry, S. M. Piyatissa, said that the proposed amendments will be submitted to Parliament in May after being referred to the Cabinet and is in line with the budget proposal for this year.
