Sri Lanka’s Nuwan Gamage wins bronze medal at World Para Athletics Championship

Nuwan Gamage secured a bronze medal in the Men’s T44 Long Jump at the World Para Athletics Championship in New Delhi on Thursday (02), with a leap of 6.46 metres.

The event was won by Italy’s Marco Cicchetti, who equalled the meet record with a jump of 6.98m to claim gold. Dzmitry Bartashevich, competing as a Neutral Paralympic Athlete, took silver with a personal best of 6.90m.

This is the second World Championship medal for the 34-year-old Gamage, who previously earned bronze in the T44 100m at the 2024 event in Kobe, Japan.

Gamage has been a consistent presence on the international para athletics stage, having also won gold in the 100m at the 2022 Asian Para Games and silver medals in both the 2018 and 2022 editions.
