Minister K.D. Lal Kantha has condemned the state sector as a “den of thieves,” claiming it remains riddled with corruption despite the administration’s attempts to clean up public institutions.
Speaking at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Agriculture on Wednesday (22), where 500 new Highland franchise outlets were officially launched, Minister Lal Kantha said the economic direction taken in the past had stripped dignity from the public sector and, together with political mismanagement, contributed significantly to the country’s economic downfall.
“The state sector has become a refuge for corruption. Although we have made significant strides in cleaning up the political sphere, the rot in the state sector persists,” he said.
He stressed that while the present regime has taken effective steps to end swindling and misconduct at the political level, the bureaucratic machinery continues to harbour malpractice.
“We have fully halted political corruption. That battle has been fought and won. But the state sector still remains plagued by theft and inefficiency,” he said.
Lal Kantha also addressed ongoing concerns regarding the fate of Highland and the National Livestock Development Board (NLDB), which had been earmarked for liquidation under the previous administration.
He clarified that although the proposed partnership with India’s dairy giant Amul remains valid, there are no current plans to dissolve Highland or the NLDB.
