Survey shows low public confidence in Government’s ability to tackle corruption

Only 38.7 per cent of Sri Lankans believe that the current government will be effective in addressing corruption, according to the latest Sri Lanka Barometer (SLB) National Public Opinion Survey.

The survey, conducted by Strengthening Social Cohesion and Peace in Sri Lanka (SCOPE) — a project co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Foreign Office — also found that just 12.5 per cent of respondents thought previous governments were successful in tackling corruption.

The SLB survey further revealed that 48.5 per cent of participants associate reconciliation with unity and positive relations between groups, indicating growing support for a relationship-based understanding of reconciliation.
