State Minister T.B. Sarath says the National People’s Power (NPP)-led government inherited a nation in economic paralysis, unlike any transition witnessed in Sri Lanka’s post-independence history.
The minister urged the public to be patient as the government undertakes the difficult task of national recovery.
“Rebuilding a country cannot be done overnight. We are not miracle workers. This is not a fairy tale, and we are not divine beings sent to perform magic,” he said.
The minister’s remarks come amid growing public pressure for swift reforms and visible improvements in economic conditions.
The NPP which came to power promising structural change, has so far failed to implement the reforms they had pledged prior to the elections and frequently cites the depth of the crisis as a key constraint.
