Former Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles has reportedly received death threats from individuals believed to be leaders of organised crime syndicates operating from abroad, prompting an urgent police investigation.

The situation came to light following the receipt of an anonymous letter, dated May 4 and reportedly sent from the United Arab Emirates, which was delivered to teh former Minister’s office on July 9.

The letter contained explicit threats, claiming the sender’s criminal associates had been forced to flee the country due to the operation “Yukthiya” which was initiated during Alles’s tenure as the Minister of Public Security.

It further alleged that their businesses had been destroyed and families torn apart as a result.

The letter warned that they intended to take revenge and that Alles would be made to “pay with his life.”

In response, Mr. Alles promptly forwarded the letter to the Inspector General of Police, following which the police recorded a statement from the former Minister and launched a special investigation.

Subsequently, a second letter, postmarked from Dubai on July 16, arrived at his office on August 28.

Titled “Final Warning”, the letter reiterated the threats in more ominous terms, stating that “no level of protection” would prevent his assassination and that his death was imminent.

This letter too has been handed over to the police.
