NPP MP Chandana Sooriyaarachchi arrested over Panagoda accident

National People’s Power (NPP) Parliamentarian Chandana Sooriyaarachchi has been arrested by Athurugiriya Police following a road accident in Panagoda that left a 65-year-old pedestrian injured.

According to Police, the accident had occurred on Wednesday night (7) in the Medamandiya area of Panagoda, when a car driven by the MP had struck a pedestrian who was crossing the road.

The injured pedestrian was admitted for medical treatment following the accident.

Police have taken Sooriyaarachchi into custody in connection with the incident, while Athurugiriya Police are conducting further investigations.

Sooriyaarachchi is a Colombo District MP representing the NPP and has been serving in the Tenth Parliament since November 2024.

Further legal action is expected to follow the police investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
