Details are emerging about the financial and other irregularities that had taken place under ‘Deyata Kirula’ national development exhibition during Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s term as the secretary to the ministry of defence.

A certain minister at the time had amassed money for himself from this campaign, which he had used for buying around 150 acres of land to the name of his family members.

Another revelation is the spending of more than Rs. 12 million towards the construction of a memorial for the Buddhist monks murdered in Aranthalawa.

The former minister in question had submitted false data that 1.5 million people had visited the ‘Deyata Kirula’ exhibition in Ampara, whereas only around 250,000 attended.
