Faiszer Mustapha has refused to forgo his National Democratic Front (NDF) national list MP seat, stressing that he took oaths to fulfil his responsibilities towards the public for a period of five years.
He was responding to a question raised at a media briefing at his office if he was willing to step down in order for NDF leader Ranil Wickremesinghe to make a comeback to parliament.
Mustapha stressed that he would not give into anyone’s conditions in the next five years to come.
He pointed out that he received the MP seat on behalf of the SLFP with consent from three out of the four NDF affiliates.
At the next general election, the SLFP would contest from an alliance of progressive parties, but not under the ‘gas cylinder’, and form a government, he said.
Speaking further, he said he would not oppose everything the NPP regime does, but support whatever good it does.
