Five Politically Exposed Persons (PEP) allegedly involved in various frauds and corruption, including the wife of a high profile politician, are facing imminent arrest, highly placed sources in the government said.

Among the ‘PEPs’ likely to be arrested include a politician who is accused of frauds related to foreign employment, a parliamentarian representing the Samagi Jana Balawageya, as well as several top officials involved with tourism related institutions.

It is reported that the Criminal Investigation Department and the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) are preparing to file charges against other PEPs accused of mega frauds, including a group of respondents related to a controversial purchase of fighter jets and a group accused of a bond scam.
