Opposition parties to hold ‘unity talks’ tomorrow

A special discussion among several opposition political parties is set to take place tomorrow (14), with the aim of fostering greater unity among opposition ranks.

The meeting is expected to be held under the leadership of former Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris and will serve as a follow-up to preliminary talks held last week at his residence.

While speculation has grown over the possibility of a new coalition, party representatives were quick to clarify that the current objective is to establish a foundation for cooperation and not to launch an immediate challenge to the government.

“This is not about forming an electoral alliance at this stage. It’s about finding common ground and building a consensus on key national issues,” an opposition lawmaker involved in the discussions said.
