Rumours swirl over PM ouster

Social media reports have surfaced suggesting that discussions are underway within political circles to remove Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya from office, potentially through a no-confidence motion.

The reports indicate internal discontent triggered by the Prime Minister’s recent statement in Parliament regarding the 2012 launch of the SupremeSAT satellite.

Citing a Board of Investment (BOI) report, Amarasuriya had stated that Sri Lanka did not invest financially in the satellite and had in fact generated revenue from it.

However, her remarks were publicly challenged the following day by Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe, who claimed the BOI report was inaccurate and that a formal investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Despite the reported tensions, over 100 National People’s Power (NPP) MPs are said to be backing the Prime Minister, according to the same social media reports.
