Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) national organiser Namal Rajapaksa says the government has launched an unprecedented crackdown on public servants, describing the current climate as one of the most difficult periods faced by state employees in recent years.
Speaking to reporters after paying homage at the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy, Rajapaksa alleged that the Sri Lanka Police had become “completely politicised,” warning that the country’s national security had weakened as a result.
He also charged that ordinary citizens were struggling under what he called an excessive tax burden imposed by the government, adding that the rising cost of living had placed severe pressure on households across the country.
Rajapaksa urged all those who believe they have been unfairly treated to join the opposition rally in Nugegoda on November 21, noting that the gathering is aimed not at bringing any individual to power but at compelling the government to honour the promises it made to the public.
He emphasised that the rally would serve as a platform for citizens to voice their concerns and demand accountability at a time of growing frustration and discontent.
