Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) leader Rauff Hakeem is scheduled to meet Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) leader Sajith Premadasa in Colombo today for crucial discussions regarding the Colombo mayoral nomination.
Hakeem confirmed to Mawbima that the SLMC’s Colombo district group leader, along with several other activists, will also take part in the talks.
The opposition has already proposed Riza Sarook as its candidate for the prestigious mayoral position.
However, the upcoming meeting is anticipated to formalise the arrangement and ensure consensus among the opposition ranks, particularly within the broader alliance of parties aligned with the SJB.
Meanwhile, SJB National Organiser Tissa Attanayake stated that the party will establish governing frameworks in all local government (LG) bodies where the National People’s Power (NPP) has failed to secure a working majority.
Speaking to vipakshaya.lk, Attanayake asserted that the SJB, as the main opposition coalition, has garnered broader public backing, which justifies its leadership role in local administrations.
