The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) General Secretary and MP Ranjith Maddumabandara says that the committee tasked with exploring a potential alliance with the United National Party (UNP) will present its final report to the SJB Management Committee this Wednesday.
The committee, comprising MPs Kabir Hashim, Mujibur Rahman, and S.M. Marikkar and former MP Eran Wickramaratne, has held a series of discussions aimed at formulating a roadmap for cooperation with the UNP.
Maddumabandara said that all negotiations are being conducted on the clear premise that any alliance would function under the leadership of Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.
Talks between the two parties are expected to initially focus on the upcoming Provincial Council Elections, with both sides showing willingness to explore common ground.
The UNP has also appointed its own negotiating team, consisting of Thalatha Atukorale, Ruwan Wijewardene, and Roland Perera, to engage in the dialogue.
Speaking to the media, Maddumabandara expressed optimism about the process.
“We are confident that the discussions will move forward positively. Both the SJB Management Committee and Working Committee have already given the green light to pursue an understanding with the UNP, as per the direction of party leader Sajith Premadasa,” he said.
