Former Chairman of the Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya said that the local government elections will be held in April due to ongoing legal proceedings.

He said that civil organizations have already decided to seek legal action against the government if they fail to hold the election in April.

Meanwhile, Election Commission Chairman R.M.A.L. Ratnayake on Monday (03) announced that it is fully prepared to conduct the Local Government polls as soon as the Supreme Court delivers its rulings on several related cases to the Speaker of the Parliament.
