The much-anticipated resumption of talks between the United National Party (UNP) and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) regarding the potential unification of the two major political parties will now take place only after a crucial meeting of the SJB’s Management Committee.

This meeting is expected to be the deciding factor in determining the SJB’s stance with regard to unification talks.

The meeting, originally set for February 26, was postponed due to the holiday observance.

Party sources confirmed that a new date for the meeting will be scheduled soon.

Despite several rounds of discussions between the UNP and SJB, a final agreement on their future political collaboration has yet to materialize.

The absence of a consensus between the leadership of both parties has temporarily stalled talks, leaving the question of unification unresolved for now.

However, members from both parties have expressed optimism about the potential benefits of contesting jointly in the upcoming local government elections.
