The party leadership is in trouble over the Samagi Jana Balawegaya’s granting nominations to Lasantha Wickramasekara to contest the local government polls despite his having court cases pending against him.
LG representatives and electoral organisers of the party urged their general secretary to make a clear statement, and also to hold a proper inquiry.
Wickramasekara, the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha chairman, was gunned down in his office a few days ago.
He had six court cases pending against him, and even got a suspended sentence in a drug-related case.
Those who questioned his getting nominations say it was unacceptable the party leadership was unaware of Wickramasekara’s questionable record.
They are intending to meet the party leader to raise the matter.
