SJB to move no-confidence motion against Health Minister

Sri Lanka’s main opposition said that it plans to move a no-confidence motion in Parliament against Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa over allegations that substandard vaccines were administered to patients, resulting in deaths.

Charith Abeysinghe, the Horana seat organizer for the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), made the announcement at a media briefing at the opposition leader’s office in Colombo.

He said the SJB-led opposition believes the Health Minister should be held accountable for actions it claims mirror those attributed to a former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella.

Abeysinghe questioned whether the opposition would ultimately be compelled to compensate Rambukwella, noting that if the former Minister’s conduct was deemed wrongful, similar actions by the incumbent could not be justified.
