United National Party (UNP) Municipal Councillor Sandamali Uluwaduge has been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital following an alleged assault by a group of National People’s Power (NPP) supporters.

The incident took place on Monday (16) near the councillor’s office in Colombo North.

She was allegedly attacked while attempting to record video footage on her mobile phone of NPP activists behaving in a disruptive manner while lighting firecrackers near her office.

Eyewitnesses say she cried out for help during the incident, prompting her husband and nearby residents to intervene.

However, they too were reportedly assaulted.

Uluwaduge was later rushed to hospital with the assistance of a passing vehicle and is currently receiving treatment at the Emergency Treatment Unit.

A formal police complaint has also been lodged at the police station at Colombo National Hospital.
