Vehicle modification isn’t a crime – Namal

Referring to measures undertaken by the police to remove certain parts from vehicles under the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ programme, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna MP Namal Rajapaksa said that modifying a vehicle is not a crime.

Speaking in Parliament, Rajapaksa said that measures such as preventing vehicle modification are destroying the automobile industry.

“The livelihood of a large number of people depends on it, so this industry must be protected,” he said.

“It is ridiculous for a ruling party MP to raise an issue about the Clean Sri Lanka programme in this House. We thought the Clean Sri Lanka programme had been discussed in the ruling party’s parliamentary group,” he said.

“It’s funny how the National People’s Force, which was regarded as a media deity while in the opposition, is attacking them after coming to power. You also used the media to attack me when you were in opposition,” the MP added.

The MP further stated that the government should focus on solving the problems faced by the people rather than spending time on other matters.
