The Election Commission has announced that 155,976 new voters have been registered for this year’s local government elections.
These new voters are in addition to those who were eligible to vote in the parliamentary and presidential elections held last year.
According to the supplementary voter lists certified on October 1, 2024, and February 1, 2025, these new voters have qualified to participate in the local government elections.
As a result, a total of 17,296,333 voters are now eligible to vote in the provincial and local government elections this year.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Election Commission, R.M.A.L. Ratnayake, stated that all preliminary arrangements for the upcoming local government elections have been completed.
The Election Commission also announced that the deadline for accepting postal voting applications has been extended until midnight on March 17.
