Approximately 80% of the country’s water purification centres and sources have been damaged following the recent disaster, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) reported.

Chandana Bandara, Chairman of the NWSDB, said the North Western Province and Kandy District were among the worst affected areas.

“We have deployed a special relief team that is working continuously to restore and repair damaged water supply facilities,” Bandara added.

The extensive damage has raised concerns about access to safe drinking water for thousands of households, as the board continues to assess the full impact of the disaster.
