A political crony to a top Port Authority position

The appointment of the incumbent managing director of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority has been made for political gains and in disregard for institutional regulations, alleges co-convener of the Port Trade Unions Joint Alliance Udeni Kalutantri.

The then MD, counting around nine years of service, was removed on 02 October 2024 without giving any reason and a non-TLM salary category officer appointed as his successor on the very next day, charged the union leader.

The new appointee is without basic understanding of the field and acts in an authoritarian manner, Kalutantri said further.

He has even clashed with the chairman of the Chinese company in charge of construction work at the east container terminal, which has now come to a complete standstill.

Kalutantri also questioned the present position and the responsibilities of the former MD.
