The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched an investigation into allegations that Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa fraudulently obtained his attorney-at-law qualification.

The inquiry was initiated following a complaint lodged by Citizens’ Power Against Bribery and Corruption.

The CID’s Special Investigation Unit informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today that their investigation is focused on whether Rajapaksa engaged in fraudulent activities during his Sri Lanka Law College examinations.

As part of the probe, official records from the institution are being scrutinized.

After considering the submissions, Colombo Chief Magistrate Tanuja Lakmali instructed the CID to submit a progress report on the investigation.

Further developments regarding the case are expected in the coming weeks.
