Cabinet Spokesperson and Minister of Health Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said that the two shipping containers containing chemicals used in the production of the drug known as “ice” that was recently discovered on a property in the Middeniya area had been released from Customs only after undergoing a formal inspection.

Speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing yesterday (09), the Minister confirmed that information received so far indicates the containers were not cleared without an inspection.

However, he acknowledged that there may have been irregularities in the clearance process.

He further assured that if any government officials are found to have acted improperly or facilitated the release in violation of the law, disciplinary and legal action will be taken without hesitation.
