The Secretary to the Ministry of Defence had summoned the head of the Meteorological Department and threatened him, asking him not to make statements to the media, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara revealed in Parliament today (05).

Madduma Bandara questioned why the country’s chief weather authority would be asked to withhold information, particularly warnings related to potential natural disasters.

“How can the Meteorology Department refrain from issuing warnings on impending natural disasters?” he asked.
