Finance Ministry to procure new fleet of double cabs

The Ministry of Finance has begun gathering input from Ministry Secretaries, Chief Secretaries of Provincial Councils, and Department Heads ahead of plans to procure a fleet of new double cabs aimed at supporting the “swift and efficient” execution of government development programmes.

The vehicles, intended for use by various state institutions, are aimed at improving logistical capacity in sectors such as agriculture, irrigation, land management, and forest conservation.

Officials say the move is necessary to address long-standing operational challenges, including a shortage of functioning vehicles and the high cost of maintaining aging fleets.

However, the Treasury has made clear that the double cabs are not to be treated as official vehicles for personal use by government officers.

Cabinet approval has already been granted for the urgent procurement of essential vehicles and equipment, with the double cabs forming the first phase of acquisitions planned for 2025.

Ministry Secretaries, Chief Secretaries of Provincial Councils, and Department Heads have been instructed to submit their vehicle needs by the end of the month.

Each request will be reviewed by a committee chaired by the respective Ministry Secretary, with assessments based on criteria such as the institution’s current fleet, the condition and age of vehicles to be replaced, and maintenance costs incurred over the past three years.
