A disappointed group of Japanese investors has turned back from Sri Lanka after a top ministry official had avoided a promised meeting with them to discuss a road safety programme that is in force in a number of countries, reports said.

He then offered to meet them at a different venue on a full moon day, but they had refused it.

Sajiv Rajaputra, chairman of Rajaputra Group, coordinated on behalf of the Japanese investors.

He told the media in Colombo that he came forward with honest intentions for the country and implement a valuable programme to make people safe from road accidents.

He said he would not expect it to be given to him, and still expressed readiness to submit it for the government’s perusal.

Rajaputra said he had to spent a huge amount to bring the Japanese team here and look after them.

His attempts for the past eight years to implement the programme in Sri Lanka have failed, he added.
