Kotahena shooting suspects killed by police in shootout

The two suspects arrested in connection with the shooting at Galpoththa Junction, Kotahena yesterday have been shot dead by police.

According to Police Spokesperson SSP Buddhika Manatunga, officers had taken the suspects to Crow Island to locate firearms they were believed to have hidden.

During the operation, the suspects attempted to grab firearms from the police and open fire.

In response, the police returned fire.

The suspects, who were wounded in the exchange, later died after being admitted to the hospital.

A police officer who was injured in the incident has also been hospitalized.

The suspects were arrested the previous night in relation to the murder of a man at Galpoththa Junction, Kotahena.

They were apprehended in Grandpass while attempting to flee the scene.

A 36-year-old man had been killed in the shooting, which involved gunmen on a motorcycle.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
