The Government has been given a two-week deadline to clarify its stance on private medical colleges and to repeal Cabinet decisions related to the matter, the Medical Faculty Students’ Action Committee said.
This ultimatum comes in the wake of a protest by medical faculty students in Colombo yesterday (06).
Following the protest, student representatives met with Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya to voice their concerns.
According to the committee’s convener, Ravindu Sachintha, the students demanded greater transparency regarding the transfer of government hospitals to private institutions, a move they argue could undermine public healthcare.
The committee insists that the government must publicly declare its position on the issue, rather than offering private assurances to students.
If the demands are not met within the stipulated time, further action is expected from the student body.
