Ministers, Deputy Ministers allotted two vehicles each

President’s Secretary Sanath Kumanayake has issued a series of instructions to the secretaries of the ministries.

This is to facilitate the work of the ministers of the new government and to strengthen the policy procurement process.

Accordingly, specific details have been given regarding the appointment of advisors to the ministries, the appointment of support staff to the ministers and deputy ministers as well as vehicles, fuel and telephone connections, etc.

As stated therein, a maximum of two official vehicles can be used for the use of ministers and deputy ministers and a maximum of 900 liters of fuel will be allocated for those vehicles monthly.

Also, a maximum of Rs. 20,000 per month will be allocated for home telephones and Rs. 10,000 per month for mobile phones.

Each minister is permitted to appoint an advisor or team, and such appointments should be made so that a maximum of two people are not exceeded.

The personal staff for ministers and deputy ministers are capped at 15 and 14 respectively.

It has been instructed that family members or close relatives of the minister or deputy minister should not be appointed to these positions.

Four members of the ministerial staff will also be entitled to 4 vehicles.

In addition to the ministers, the personal secretary, coordinating secretary, media secretary, and public coordination officers of his staff are also entitled to monthly telephone allowances.
