No decision to restrict vehicle imports, says Central Bank Governor

Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe today clarified that neither the government nor the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has taken any decision to impose restrictions on vehicle imports.

Addressing a press briefing following the release of the Central Bank’s latest monetary policy statement, Dr. Weerasinghe dismissed recent media reports suggesting that new curbs on vehicle imports were under consideration.

He further stated that the government also holds no such intention, adding that the relevant subject minister has publicly affirmed there would be no reversal of the decision to open the market for vehicle imports.
