President Anura Kumara Dissanayake says that Sri Lanka will receive the largest loan ever given to the country by the World Bank this year.

He said that discussions are currently underway with the World Bank in this regard.

He said that they are also currently engaged in extensive discussions with the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

He also said that the Japanese government has agreed to provide 28 garbage trucks as a grant.

He expressed these views while addressing a meeting of the National People’s Power held in Kurunegala.

WBG’s integrated office in Sri Lanka

During a virtual meeting held on December 27 between President Dissanayake and the President of the World Bank Group (WBG) Ajay Banga at the Presidential Secretariat, it was revealed that Sri Lanka has been selected as one of 20 countries worldwide to host the integrated South Asia office, set to open on July 25, 2025.

This initiative is part of Mr. Banga’s plan to establish 20 integrated country offices to improve coordination among the four key World Bank Group institutions: the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).
